Malibu Rising

Taylor Jenkins Reid – 5/5 Stars

Read this if you:
· miss going to epic house parties
· enjoy books that are driven by character development
· are nosey like me and enjoy books that give you extensive backgrounds on the characters

Synopsis:
The Riva siblings, Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit, are the offspring of singing legend Mick Riva and everyone has been following them very closely for their entire lives but that hasn’t made them any more used to the spotlight. On the day of Nina’s annual end-of-summer party, everyone in Malibu is full of excitement except for Nina herself who tries everything she can to avoid being the centre of attention. Before the party gets entirely out of hand and Nina’s mansion goes up in flames, there is a good time to be had by all as well as secrets to be revealed.

My thoughts on the book:
TJR does it again, bringing characters to life and making me obsess over them in every way! This book was a bit of a slow burn (no pun intended) in that nothing really happens except the most epic party of the century. I loved learning about the Riva siblings through their parents’ past as well as the shift to their present day relationships. As always, I’m a sucker for sibling relationships in books so the ups and downs between the Rivas sucked me right in, I couldn’t put this one down!
One of my favourite parts of this one was the Evelyn Hugo crossover – no background on it needed in order to enjoy this book, but I loved seeing the characters mentioned again in a way that further brought them to life!
