Synopsis:
Lionel Page is a reporter who has made it his life’s work to expose scammers pretending to have any kind of supernatural powers. When a young reporter threatens to reveal his problematic past, wealthy Regina Dunkle contacts him and offers to bury the story, in exchange for a favour. While on his mission, Lionel encounters Maddie and the two discover they were actually hired to complete the same task. As Lionel delves further into Maddie and Regina’s world, he starts to believe in the one thing he’s spent his life trying to disprove – magic.
My Thoughts on the Book:
This book was so different from what I usually read but I actually enjoyed it for the most part! The suspense was great and the storyline was interesting, I found myself wanting to keep reading to find out what happened next. I also enjoyed how this delved into some mythology and thought the world-building was super interesting.
One thing I didn’t love was the excessive number of storylines in this book. It felt like I had so many people and events to keep track of, at times it was a bit confusing. I also found this book to be pretty gory, but I will say I’m a bit sensitive to that stuff in general. The scene where Lionel has the most terrifying dream scarred me for life, even though I only read half of it because I was so traumatized 😂
