Fable by Adrienne Young – 4/5 Stars
Read this if you:
· enjoy YA books that are a little more deep
· want to dip your toe into the fantasy world
· have had to work hard to make a name for yourself
Synopsis:
After her father’s ship sinks, killing her mother, Fable is abandoned on the island of Jeval and spends the next four years trying to find her way back to her dad. She finally gets the opportunity aboard the Marigold. As Fable adjusts to life as a trader she soon realizes that the ship’s helmsman, West, has secrets to hide, not unlike the family she is trying to bring back together.
My Thoughts on the Book:
Did I ever think a YA book about pirates would pique my interest and having me reaching for the next instalment as soon as I was done? Nope. Was I completely wrong in that assumption? 💯
This book was such an adventure, it was action-packed and I found it so easy to read, I couldn’t put it down! The settings were so perfectly drawn out, I really could have been aboard a pirate ship from beginning to end. I loved reading about Fable’s rise through the ranks, from being a dredger to finally becoming part of a crew, and obviously the love story woven through the plot sealed the deal for me. The ending of the book left me in complete shock, I had to start Namesake right away!
I did find the beginning of this one to be a bit slow so if you pick it up, try to push through!
