Synopsis:
While dealing with a family crisis, Alix Chamberlain calls her family babysitter, Emira, to take her toddler out to the local market late one night. While there, a security guard accuses her of abducting the young girl, a confrontation that is caught on camera by another patron. Alix puts forth extensive efforts to right this wrong, but these good intentions are tarnished by her selfishness.

My thoughts on the book:
I’m a bit torn on rating this book because I LOVED the characters and found the dialogue to be really funny at times but I didn’t love the storyline and how the plot progressed. For most of the book, it felt as though nothing really happened. While I did find Emira to be likeable, she sometimes seemed to be a little flat in her interactions with the other characters in the book and I felt as though I got the most from her when the book described her internal monologue. I did somewhat also enjoy the combativeness between Alix and Kelley. I felt like when they were going after each other, each one had compelling arguments for why the other was worse for Emira.I did find that this was an easy read, especially for the heavy theme that was central throughout, but I feel like that almost made me miss the point of the whole book. Overall an enjoyable read but I would recommend paying attention to the characters who act as though they are “saviours”, trying to protect Emira in order to fully appreciate the author’s intentions. I did somewhat also enjoy the combativeness between Alix and Kelley.
